I n today’s Gospel reading we see people vying for places of honor. Jesus, however, challenges us to do just the opposite: to seek the “lowest place.” While many in the world compete for worldly prestige and honor, Jesus is asking Christians to outdo one another in the practice of true humility
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling for a Day of Prayer for Peace in our Communities on Friday, September 9th. Recent months of escalating violence continues to gravely harm our local communities. As people of faith we turn to the power of prayer to shine the light of Christ into areas of darkness.
The Item-of-the-Month for the remainder of August through September will be donations for the fire victims in San Bernardino. Please donate clothes that are freshly laundered, have light wear-n-tear, and in varied sizes, Men – Women - Children. Shoes (closed toes and heels); will ultimately be sorely needed. Linen items such as blankets, sheets and towels are also needed. NO hygiene items.

Many of us know the sinking feeling we get when we approach an airline gate, see the closed door, and realize we’ve missed our flight. Today’s Gospel reading takes that one step further and asks us to contemplate what it would be like to miss out on heaven, seeing that door shut to us forever. “There will be wailing and grinding of teeth,” Jesus says — and we’re faced with the consequences of the choices we make in our life.
If you want a better understanding of our faith, and a deeper relationship with God, then you should join St. Paul’s Men’s Fellowship for the Great Adventure: The Bible Timeline Study, beginning Saturday, September 10th at 7:30 a.m. and we finish at 9:00 a.m.
Today’s Gospel reading may surprise us. Jesus’ words don’t seem to fit the peaceful forgive-your-enemies-and-turn-the-other-cheek image of Jesus we might have. In fact, he says quite explicitly that he didn’t come to establish peace, but rather, division. What do you think Jesus means by this?
The Item-of-the-Month for August is Children’s Clothing and Shoes. Are you doing any summer cleaning of your children’s closet or dresser drawers this Summer Break? If so, and you find any good, usable clothing and shoes that are no longer needed, we have children in the community who would be happy to have them. Please make sure they are not torn and are in good condition.
Are annulments just a Catholic version of divorce? Nothing could be further from the truth. The differences are profound and much of the confusion comes from marriage itself. Bishop Perry explains the key principles of the Sacrament of Marriage and applies them to divorce and annulments. This presentation answers the most commonly asked questions on this topic.
We eagerly look forward to your response to our sponsorship letters and our deep gratitude to your early reply. Please remember the following deadlines: • Banner/Signs - September 16, 2016 • Memorial Wall - September 23, 2016
“For where your treasure is, there also your heart will be.” These words of Jesus challenges us to ask ourselves about our real priorities in life. What is most important? One look at how we use our time or spend our money will tells us what is truly important. Then comes the bigger question: do our priorities line up with God’s?
